Project Overview
The Hau Giang – Ca Mau Expressway is a key component of the Eastern North–South Expressway (2021–2025 Phase), spanning more than 73 kilometers. The project plays a vital role in completing the transportation network of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, enhancing regional connectivity, and supporting socio-economic development.
Due to the region’s challenging geotechnical conditions, characterized by thick layers of soft clay and weak soil, the project required an effective ground improvement solution to ensure bearing capacity, long-term stability, and construction schedule compliance.

Challenges
The soft soil conditions commonly found in the Mekong Delta present several engineering challenges, including:
-Low bearing capacity.
-Significant settlement potential.
-Prolonged consolidation time.
-Risk of differential settlement affecting pavement performance and structural integrity.
The primary challenge was to accelerate soil consolidation, reduce settlement waiting time, and maintain embankment stability during both construction and operation.
Solution
Following a comprehensive geotechnical investigation and evaluation of site conditions, APT proposed a combined ground improvement solution utilizing: Geotextiles & Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVDs).
This integrated solution provided the following benefits:
-Enhanced load distribution over weak subsoil.
-Separation, filtration, and reinforcement of embankment structures.
-Accelerated dissipation of excess pore water pressure.
-Faster soil consolidation.
-Reduced construction and settlement waiting periods.
-Improved long-term stability and service life of the roadway.
Products Supplied
APT supplied the following materials for the project:
✔ 8,202,824 m² of Geotextiles
✔ 18,728,843 m of Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVDs)
All products were manufactured under strict quality management systems and complied with the technical requirements of this nationally significant infrastructure project.

Results
The combination of geotextiles and PVDs significantly contributed to:
-Accelerating the consolidation process of soft ground.
-Reducing ground treatment duration.
-Increasing subgrade bearing capacity.
-Enhancing stability during construction and operation.
-Supporting the project’s implementation schedule.
The extensive use of geosynthetic materials in this project demonstrates the effectiveness and necessity of combining geotextiles with PVDs for soft soil improvement, particularly in large-scale infrastructure developments across Vietnam.
APT’s Supply Capability
APT’s participation in supplying geosynthetic materials for the Hau Giang – Ca Mau Expressway further reinforces its position as a trusted provider of geotechnical solutions for major infrastructure projects.
