Soft Soil Treatment for Phuoc An Port Project Using Nonwoven Geotextile

Project Overview

Phuoc An Port Project is one of the key port infrastructure developments in Nhon Trach District, Dong Nai Province, Vietnam. Strategically located in the Southern Key Economic Region, the project is expected to strengthen regional logistics capacity and improve connectivity between industrial zones, seaports, and the national transportation network.

Due to the soft soil conditions across the project site, ground improvement was essential to ensure long-term stability and performance of the infrastructure.

To support the project, An Thai Geosynthetics supplied 150,000 m² of Nonwoven Geotextile 15PE and 30PE for soft ground treatment applications.

Project Challenges

The construction area is characterized by soft clayey soil with low bearing capacity and high compressibility. Ground improvement solutions were therefore required to achieve the following engineering objectives:

-Separate the soft subgrade from the fill material.
-Prevent contamination between subgrade soil and aggregate layers.
-Improve load distribution across the embankment.
-Maintain filtration and drainage performance within the pavement structure.
-Control long-term settlement and enhance overall foundation stability.

These requirements are critical for ensuring the durability and service life of port infrastructure constructed on weak ground.

The geotextile facilitates water movement within the soil structure, helping reduce excess pore water pressure during construction.

Reinforcement

Depending on the project design requirements, the geotextile also contributes to improved load distribution and embankment stability during construction.
